I’m sure many people are like “who cares if pillowfort doesn’t allow art depicting prepubescent children in nsfw situations, I don’t want to see that anyway!”
Well you should at least think about it because…
1. This smacks of purity culture (the wording of people being ‘upset’ by this content alone gave me the bad kind of shivers). Pillowfort comes with a robust, built-in way to block any kind of content you don’t want to see. There’s no need to ban it outright for fear of upsetting people when they can just block it.
As far as I know art depicting fictional minors is not actually illegal. If they want to ban it on the basis of it being a legal grey area then they should have said that in their announcement. Instead they made it sound like they agree with the purity culture warriors rampaging all over tumblr calling anyone a pedophile who looked at a 16 year old once.
2. It’s a slippery slope. They are starting their relationship with fandom with a ban. What will be next? Certain kinks that people find objectionable? Certain ships? We all know what the antis have been clamoring for and it’s not a fandom environement I am personally interested in.
If pillowfort is already sounding like them this early in the game I have no faith there won’t be more bans for moral reasons in the future.
Again: They can do what they want! But I don’t have to like it and I certainly don’t plan to become active on a site where the writing for future bans is on the wall.

This is literally sexualising children just because it’s a fictional child doesn’t mean it’s suddenly not an issue. This smacks of the being attracted to pre-pubescent children is the same as being queer so if you ban children nsfw next they’ll be after the queer community and that’s just not true.
Before adding your absolutely uninformed opinion to this issue I would advise you to go get yourself some information about the current situation with pillowfort.

The only people to blame for children under the age of 10 having “addictions” to smart phones, tablets, and technology in general is the parents. I don’t want to hear people complain about their 4 year old knowing how to play with the settings on their ipad. You put the iPad in your kid’s life. You gave a 4 year old their own ipad. They learned to use it. You did that. It’s your fault. Don’t blame kid’s for poor parenting, incompetence, and laziness when it comes to raising children.
